Demi also shared her thoughts on the difficulty of having a substance abuse problem like Amy in Hollywood!
Demi, 18, was asked on Miami Y100’s Mack At Nite if she was a fan of Amy, who died on July 23 at the age of 17, and she responded enthusiastically.
“Who wasn’t a fan of her? She was such an incredible talent that was so fresh and so new at that time and I knew all of her songs word-for-word,” she said.
Also, Demi shared some astute observations about the challenges of being a celebrity with a substance abuse problem.
“I think it was really difficult probably for someone like her who came out with a song called ‘Rehab’ to have to change her persona completely,” she said. “I think that sometimes people glamorize the partying and the drinking and the drugs when you’re a rock-and-roller, or when you’re in that kind of genre of musicians. What people don’t realize is there are some people in Hollywood — and all over the place — who don’t live those lifestyles. I think it’s important and a wake up call to people that you can’t live that lifestyle forever, and at the end of the day your talent is the reason you got there.”
On July 23, Demi also took to Twitter, writing, “Amy Winehouse.. So sad. Unfortunately the world lost an incredibly talented woman to such a powerful disease… addiction. #RIP”
