According to a spokesperson for the Guinness World Records, Akshat Saxena of Uttar Pradesh in northern India was born with seven fingers on each hand and ten toes on each foot. Now a year old, he has since undergone a series of surgeries to amputate the excess digits, which are caused by a condition known as polydactyly, a genetic disorder which can be inherited.
Akshat was born without thumbs, so doctors are working to create them from the fingers they have already removed.
The Guinness World Record was previously held by a 6-year-old boy from China, who remains unnamed. He was born with 15 fingers and 16 toes, but has since removed his extra digits. He now has ten fingers and ten toes following a six-and-a-half hour operation at a hospital in Shenyang, Liaoning last March. Wow!
Isn’t this amazing, HollyMoms?
