In an interview with E! Online, Teen Mom Amber Portwood‘s brother Shawn admits that although Amber is on the road to recovery in a rehab facility in Malibu, CA, he wants to make sure he has more of a hands-on role in helping her overcome her issues once she leaves. That means she needs to let go of her old life in Anderson, Ind. and start fresh in Nashville, Tenn.
“That way I can help her get control of her life,” Shawn explains of the move. “She would be better off here than at home with people who have a negative effect on her.”
Shawn has been a huge support for Amber and has appeared on several episodes of Teen Mom, one of them being last week’s, where he tried to counsel her on getting her life together when she took a road trip with baby daddy Gary Shirley and 2-year-old daughter Leah to see him.
“If Amber stays in Anderson, she will get into trouble, whether it be a fight with Gary or something else,” Shawn says. “She can spend time in jail and have no chance of seeing Leah, or be around people who will better influence her. She has the money to see Leah whenever she wants until she regains control of her life and, hopefully, custody of Leah. Gary has custody now and it’s not good because he holds that over her head when they fight.”
Shawn just returned from Anderson, where he checked in on Gary and Leah and spent time with them. And although they’re doing well, they are, of course, worried about Amber.
“Her condition is better, but she’s still on the road to recovery,” Shawn, who regularly talks to Amber’s doctors, reveals. “She is starting to get into a kickboxing routine that is better for her. Amber has started to keep her mind off of things.”
Do you think Amber should move to be with her brother in Nashville?
