The parents were only 10 feet away when the shark attacked their daughter on Ocracoke Island, NC Tuesday, July 19.

The unnamed 6-year-old victim was on a boogie board in shallow water at around 5:30 pm before she was bitten in the lower right leg and flown to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She is alive and is currently in good condition. Thank God!

A statement from the parents issued by the hospital said the girl was in good spirits, saying: “I hate sharks. I like dolphins way better.”

No other swimmers were injured, but Hyde County spokeswoman Jamie Tunnell says bystanders described the shark as having a “black tip or black fin, which is the type of sharks that have been known to be in this area.”

The shark attack is second in the waters of North Carolina in less than a month. 10-year-old Cassidy Cartwright was bitten twice in the leg in early July, but is expected to make a full recovery.

the ocean is the sharks life. They are very deadly but beautiful. I hope these victims learn something from this. Also, good job about only taking the negative (” i hate sharks”) and dweling on it
