Not only did she chop off her luscious locks, but Vanessa Hudgens put on 10 pounds for her tough girl role in her upcoming film ‘Gimme Shelter’!
While her new boyfriend is mad at work on The Hunger Games, former Disney darling Vanessa Hudgens has been busy shooting the drama Gimme Shelter — and her new pixie hair cut isn’t the only physical change she had to make for the role.
The 22-year-old actress, who plays a homeless girl in the film, was also required to pack on 10 extra pounds — which is no small number for her 5’3″ frame.
“The walk, the talk … it was a completely new person. I really did look like a boy,” Vanessa told People at Neutrogena’s Wave for Change event in Los Angeles July 18. “Not to mention the places we were filming. We were in the grimiest, dirtiest places, and I was fighting every day, being fought, being beat down and it was all extremely draining even though it was acting.”
Gimme Shelter, which also stars Rosario Dawson and Brendan Fraser, tells the story of a pregnant teenager who gets kicked out of her house by her Wall Street father and is forced to survive in the streets. Since starring in the High School Musical series, Vanessa has struggled to break free from her Disney girl image – perhaps this movie will do the trick.
