‘Deathly Hallows’ had the highest three-day opening of all time — but can Twi-Hards help Edward and Bella climb to the top?

Industry insiders were floored when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 smashed expectations and surpassed The Dark Knight to have the highest-grossing three-day opening of all time. But fans are adamant the Breaking Dawn films will outgross all wizards!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 grossed $168.5 million over the first three days of release, Deadline reports. This number flies over the previous record of $158.4 million set in 2008 by The Dark Knight. But this cannot account for the number of passionate fans who are feverishly anticipating the newest Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart flick!

i like harry potter and i LOOOOOOOOOVE twilight, but remember BECAUSE harry potter has been around for SO long and has had YEARS to gain fans each movie is WAAAAAY more anticipated therefore, the movies make more money. Oh and by the way they were asking for your opinion on who will make more money, this is NOT a book review. so keep your crap to yourselves.

i think it is stupid for one cuz vampires do not sparkle and two they cannot reproduce unless they bite someone. If u look at it with a diff stand point its almost tieing in with the movie underworld where licans and vamps quarrel and how one is a mix breed. Even tho the child is human/vamp mix it holds just about the same story line. I guess next time i go to the prefects bathroom i wont pour in my ten gallon bucket of sparkles before cedric diggory takes a bath. And that’s how sue see’s it.

@ informative, eclipse didnt get more than new moon because new moon sucked. People didnt know that every movie had a different director and thought Eclipse would be just the same. Eclipse was way better than new moon

ACTUALLY, the 3D revenue did not effect Harry Potter that much at all, it says that only 40% of the revenue was of 3D. The other 60%, was 2D. So technically it isn’t all that much when added up. The film itself made $1,320,000,000 +, more than 1 Billion 300 Million, the 1st Twilight film only made almost 390 Million.
Breaking Dawn may beat Harry Potter in the opening, but it will never beat any Harry Potter films in total revenue nor does it deserve to. In fact Eclipse made less than New Moon did ranking in at just near 700 Million. And also keeping in mind that none of the Twilight films have grossed more than a Harry Potter film, which when added and adjusted is more than 8 Billion, Twilight is only 1.8 Billion. Besides many who watch Twilight are only Teen obsessed fans who have no respect or love to what a true Movie is. All the Twilight films have received mixed to negative reviews where as the Harry Potter movies have received positive and critical acclaim.

Anyway this isn’t the point, there TWO completely different series and should not be COMPARED. I do like Twilight, and I LOVE Harry Potter, but you simply cannot compare them. It’s like comparing Lord of the Rings to the Little Mermaid.

I love both Harry Potter and Twilight. When I went to buy tickets for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows II two days before it came out there were plenty of midnight tickets. But for Breaking Dawn I boughht them a couple of weeks ago and every single session was booked out until Monday. That’s four days booked out for every cinema!

@bigtimeme, really? I tried buying midnight tickets for Harry Potter two weeks in advance and i was unable to get midnight tickets, they were all sold out! My friend however was able to get midnight tickets to Breaking Dawn the day before it came out.
Anywayz, who cares about Bella and Edward getting married? I mean, whats the big deal? HARRY POTTER FOREVER <3

Harry Potter got highest midnight opening because it had $3 a head advantage because of the 3-D format. New Moon held that record without the 3-D advantage. Breaking Dawn, especially part 1, which is Bella and Edward’s wedding and honeymoon, is going to bury Harry Potter.

Someone’s living in a dream world. Twilight will never beat the final Harry Potter. Harry Potter has too many fans and too much of a following (more than Twilight), in the US and internationally to get beaten. Yeah, the 3D helped a lot with the numbers, but it is what it is.

Well, Harry Potter is the #1 HIGHEST GROSSING FRANCHISE and #3 in the WORLDWIDE MOVIE BOX OFFICE and #1 in PRE-SALE TICKETS and FASTEST TO 1 BILLION DOLLARS and TOP OPENING WEEKEND in the US (and top Friday, top Saturday, and top Sunday individually) and FASTEST MIDNIGHT BOX OFFICE and THE HIGHEST GROSSING 2011 FILM and TOOK A WHOLE DECADE TO MAKE. (Please add on if any more records were broken without my knowledge or after this post.)

I think that Breaking Dawn was the worst book of the whole saga personally. I also believe that everyone who has read Breaking Dawn has told all their friends what happens in that book, and it probably makes people a little bit grossed out. (SPOILER ALERT! I mean come on. Jacob falls in love with the baby!?) I also think that it won’t win because I think that Twilight is in that part of their fandom where there are more haters and Twi-Hards. AND, since a good load of the fans are about 9 years old, I doubt that the parents of those children will let them watch Breaking Dawn after seeing the trailer. Also, with HP7.1, some people guessed that the reason it didn’t beat the Twilight series Box Office wise was because the movie came out in November after school. Both of the Breaking Dawn parts come out in November.

Therefore, in case you don’t want to read all of that, I’m pretty sure that Harry Potter will remain the champion.

I really hope that breaking dawn gets absolutely thrashed, breaking dawn is the worst of the books and the advert looks so boring AND it could never beat anything, let alone Harry Potter! for instance DID YOU KNOW ( AND EVERYBODY HAS TO READ THIS BECAUSE IT JUST ANSWERS THE WHOLE DEBATE COMPLETELY) the least financially successful harry potter film made $90, 000 000 dollars more that the most successful twilight film.

maybe in the us it will break records but i dont think it will reach to 1 billion mark..i mean come on..harry potter is a decade in a making..the story are better..the books are better. twilight is popular now a days but twihards, you must admit that twilight books are badly written..the characters are pretty lame..bella is weak, annoying character..edward is like a statue..jacob is dumb.after 3 movies he just cannot put into his head that bella doesnt like him..and the story has gone nowhere…im so sorry..but that’s the truth..so must accept it..please stop comparing twilight to harry potter..you can compare twilight to true bloods or any vampire movies..harry potter is different..

Not all Twilight fans are teenagers – I’m an adult fan, and not a young adult,either. I find the idea of vampires and humans a more compelling story than wizards, schools to learn how to do magic,and noseless villains ever could be. Breaking Dawn all the way!

That’s going to be tough to accomplish. Deathly Hallows Part 2 was definitely the end of an era. It broke box office records all over the world like I’ve seen no other movie do. Harry Potter is special. People stood by it for ten years; we grew up with is, so it holds a special place in our hearts. When it comes to overall worldwide gross, HP puts Twilight to shame.

Imax and 3D always make more money than a normal movie. No competition. And yes, HP has wider ages film than twilight. And HP is for boys too. So BD has no chance , anyhow I like the Twilight, I don’t wait the last two movies….

That’s what people don’t get – Twilight isn’t just for teenagers and young kids. I’m an older adult fan. I’ve seen all the Twilight films and, oddly enough, I’ve also seen all of the Harry Potter films and I didn’t like Harry Potter at all. As for the acting in Twilight, anyone who thinks it is bad doesn’t know what they are talking about. What the audience sees is the personality of the characters from Stephanie’s book – Bella is awkward and Kristen is portraying her as the character was intended to be seen. The same with Edward, Charlie, Jacobc, etc. It’s a modern Romeo and Juliet with a twist. As for the box office, HP also had an advantage of $3 per ticket on the 3-D format and IMAX tickets were even more. All of the Twilight movies were released in regular 2-D so HP fans shouldn’t be so quick to brag because that comparison could turn out to be very different if the IMAX and 3-D advantag was eliminated. Anyway, come Nov. 18, Breaking Dawn is going to bury Harry Potter.

If you think that the Actor’s in Twilight have great acting skills then you are terribly wrong. All Twilight films have received mixed to negative reviews from PROFESSIONAL critics. Stephen King, a professional author actually said Stephenie Myer is a terrible write, J.K, she is a true author. Putting that aside all Harry Potter films have received positive and critical acclaim. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 received a 96% Approval Rating scoring ”Critical Acclaim”, which is simply incredible. And from TOP PROFESSIONAL Critics is received 100%. Also Critics and fans from numerous rating sites like IMDB, and Rotten Tomatoes have said Taylor Lautner cannot be an actor off Twilight because he is so bad at Acting. And his new role in Abduction received 8% out off 100%. So acting wise, your very wrong.

The only reason the HP trio haven’t been able to branch out of the HP is because of the length it took to make each film. The last two HP movies took a year and half to film. They had little breaks in between each film and it was usually spend at school and with family and friends. Compare that to the length of the Twilight movies: each made in a matter of months. So of course the Twilight actors would be able to branch out on to other roles. Besides, the rushing of filming each Twilight movie shows; they’re not that great of films when it comes down to it.
