Salon services are popping up anywhere but salons recently. You can now get services where you shop! Is this a novel idea or a kitschy concept?
The Duane Reade at 40 Wall Street in NYC is now offering blowouts, hair conditioning treatments, manicures, and brow threading. Sephora has recently announced their nail art and laquer shops that will be opening in their TIme Square and San Francisco locations. Both stores offer walk-in services with trained technicians. Is this a big convenience or a soon-to-be short-lived trend?
You might be wondering, why would I go to a Sephora instead of a nail salon or a Duane Reade instead of a hair salon? Well, it’s certainly convenient to be able to get a walk-in appointment and be able to pick up a prescription or your favorite lip gloss at the same time. Also, blowouts at Duane Reade will cost you 35-45 dollars — a very reasonable price compared to what a typical salon might charge.

You mention that the stylists will be “trained technicians.” But where are they trained? I go to Supercuts, and I understand that their training facility is in Paris. Why would I go to Duane Reade where they’re probably trained in new jersey?
