A Georgia mother was convicted of homicide by vehicle for crossing a busy road in the wrong place, resulting in the death of her son. And, get this: she could spend more time in jail than the driver!
Raquel Nelson, 30, was walking home from a bus stop across a busy intersection with her three children last April when a van plowed into them, killing her 4-year-old son. Raquel claims her son ran out into the middle of the busy four-lane highway. The crash also resulted in injuries for Raquel and her youngest daughter.
The charges against Raquel stemmed from the fact that she didn’t use the crosswalk when crossing the street.
The driver, Jerry Guy, was sentenced to five years in jail after he fled the scene. He served six months behind bars and will complete the rest on probation.
Raquel could be sentenced to THREE YEARS!
Neighbors and community members have long complained about the dangerous street, saying the nearest crosswalk is over a half-mile away.
Do you think the mom should be jailed, HollyMoms?
