Despite confessing he killed and dismembered eight-year-old Leiby Kletzky, 35-year-old Levi Aron entered a not guilty plea when he was arraigned on July 14.
“He has indicated to me that he hears voices and has had some hallucinations,” said attorney Pierre Bazile.
No explanation was given for the not guilty plea, on charges of kidnapping and murder. Police officers insist they have written and video confessions, in which Aron admits snatching Leiby on July 11 when he stopped him to ask for directions.
He also admits he lured the child to his home and murdered him, before cutting up his body and hiding it in his freezer and a nearby dumpster.
Aron looked pale and disheveled in court.
Officials confirmed he will be mentally evaluated and placed on suicide watch, pending a further hearing.
Do you believe his story, HollyMoms? Is he mentally ill? Or is it a convenient excuse?
