The search for the beloved 9-year-old Brooklyn boy ended at a gruesome scene at Levi Aron’s Kensington apartment.
Police chief Raymond Kelly held a press conference today, July 13 at 11:30 am announcing that Leiby Kletzky‘s killer has confessed to the crime, putting an end to the harrowing two day ordeal.
After Leiby Kletzky was last seen leaving his day camp, he took a wrong turn while trying to meet up with his mother only 7 blocks away. The 9-year-old asked Levi for directions, who made him wait outside a dentist’s office to pay a bill, and then took him home.
It was that payment that helped lead police in his direction. When ask where Leiby was, Levi nodded them in the direction of his kitchen, where there was blood on the refrigerator and blood on the knives.
Some remains were stored in the freezer while others had been disposed of. The man is allegedly the same person to give investigators a tip telling them which Brooklyn dumpster to check for the child’s remains.
Levi has no criminal record other that one count of urinating in public. He is a clerk at a maintenance supply company in Brooklyn who has had no previous contact with Leiby or his family.
Eerily, the last moments of Leiby’s life are caught on several surveillance cameras along his misguided route.
Today is Levi’s 35th birthday, but he will obviously not be celebrating — His charges are pending.
