The poster for the highly anticipated Batman film doesn’t reveal much — but has us eagerly waiting for more!

Fans have been waiting for Christopher Nolan’s third installment to his Batman series — The Dark Knight Rises — since 2008’s super-successful The Dark Knight.  But now, the wait is closing in as the first teaser poster for the upcoming film has surfaced the Internet.

The appropriately named ‘teaser’ poster does not give away much about the film, however fans and moviegoers are sure to be cringing at their computer desk with the first sight of a crumbling Gotham City creating a distinct bat symbol in the sky — a precursor for what’s in store for next summer’s biggest blockbuster hit.

The anxiously-awaited film is set to release on July 20, 2012.  Christian Bale will be returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman, as well as Batman veterans Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman.  The cast will invite newcomers Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, and Nolan’s own Inception star Tom Hardy as Batman’s nemesis, Bane.

2008’s The Dark Knight grossed over $1 billion worldwide — and there’s no doubt the next installment will have an easy time topping it!
