Brad consistently reassured Emily throughout their relationship that he couldn’t wait to be a dad to her now 6-year-old daughter Ricki — turns out he was lying all along!
Everyone was rooting for Bachelor Brad Womack and Emily Maynard, but it’s now apparent that their love just wasn’t strong enough. On last night’s ABC special with Bachelor/Bachelorette host Chris Harrison, Emily, 25, confessed that Brad, 38, just wasn’t ready to give up his single life for fatherhood, after he promised her time and time again that he was ready to be the dad her daughter Ricki never had. What a shame.
“Maybe my want for it to work out — I wanted to be married and have more children and I wanted that with him — overshadowed the actual reality of the relationship,” Emily tells Chris Harrison. “I didn’t doubt that we loved each other, I just doubted he was gonna want to be with me.”
“I think we’ve both been used to being single and I think that that’s a hard adjustment,” she adds. “As a single mom, I didn’t have that reassurance.”
Brad’s never been good at telling the truth — the first time he went on The Bachelor, he left the show breaking the hearts of Deanna Pappas and Jenni Croft after leading them on to believe one of them would be his future wife. Now, we see that he lead on his most recent fiancee Emily to believe that he wanted to be a father to her 6-year-old daughter Ricki. But in truth, he had no plans to go down that road with Emily. Talk about committment issues.
“The day Brad proposed to me was one of the happiest days I can remember,” Emily explains. “I was going to get Ricki and I an apartment in Austin, [but] little red flags would come up. I came to a point where I had to be honest with myself.”
“It makes me sad to know that we love each other enough to make it work if it was just based on that, but it’s not,” she confesses. “It’s just really sad.”
So what is Emily’s plan for the future? “Right now, I just want to focus on being a mom.” So no Bachelorette? We’ll have to wait and see…
