After the BAFTAs, Kate and Prince William show their grace with children in California!

Prince William and Kate Middleton had plenty of fun on their North American tour, but on their final day in California they took some time out to meet with the less fortunate — and Kate even got her hands dirty painting!

William and Kate, both 29, went to the Skid Row district of Los Angeles on July 10 to visit with children associated with Inner-City Arts, PEOPLE reports. The nonprofit is a service that provides art lessons to impoverished kids in the area. And Kate thrilled the children by picking up a paintbrush and joining in. Although she had fun, it seems her artistic sensibilities are shakier than her fashion sense. After drawing a small animal, she admitted, “It’s either a tortoise or a snail — I’m not sure!”

Speaking of turtles, William related to the kids by talking about a love from his own childhood.

“Have you guys ever seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” he asked. “No? It’s a cartoon much cooler than it sounds.”

What do you think, HollywoodLifers — do you love Kate’s artistic side?
