Go backstage at ‘Degrassi’ for a musical performance like no other. Seriously, prepare yourselves.

Degrassi has given us many a hit musical group during the past decade — The Three Tenners, The Stüdz, and of course, Paige Michalchuk & The Sex Kittens — but I believe I’ve discovered its finest act yet. I’d like to present to you the freestylings of Daniel Kelly, with Munro Chambers and Jahmil French as his fly backup dancers, in a rare performance I captured during a recent visit to the show’s Toronto set.

(Side note, slash admission of guilt: My camera cut off the first 20-or-so seconds of this brilliant work of art. You still get most of the rap, but not the lovely intro in which Aislinn Paul drops the beat from the computer in the background.)

OK, Degrassi writers, there’s your blueprint for season 12 — Owen, Dave and Eli form a rap group. Admit it: Once this video has been seen, it cannot be unseen.

Also, as if you aren’t already counting down the seconds, the new season of Degrassi kicks off July 18 with a one-hour premiere at 8 p.m. ET on TeenNick! (Prepare your DVRs.)
