After 18 years of living like a recluse in her captor’s backyard, Jaycee was apprehensive about seeing her mother again!
Despite the physical and emotional abuse that Jaycee Dugard suffered at the hands of Phillip Garrido and his wife Nancy, she felt nervous and guilty before reuniting with her mother.
Phillip was asked to bring his whole family to the police station for questioning on Aug. 25, 2009 after being recognized as a sex offender, and that was when everything changed for Jaycee!
She finally admitted her real identity and was able to call her mom, Terry Probyn, who screamed “My daughter has been found!” over and over.
Jaycee writes, “I was nervous about the reunion the next day with my mom and sister. What if my mom doesn’t accept the girls? What if my mom hates me? Could I have tried harder to leave?…Guilty feelings regarding Phillip and Nancy tried to implant themselves in my head. My world had been turned upside down.”
It’s completely understandable that Jaycee was anxious — Her entire life was about to change! The good news is that she and her daughters, who are now 16 and 13 years old, are adjusting well and going through “reunification therapy” to help them cope with their new lives.
And, of course, her mother is so happy to have her back!

Jaycee was nervous and scared to see her mother after the rescue because of what her mother would think of her. This should not be that big of a deal to be a news headlne! If you are going to focus on the reunion, focus on the good that came out of it such as a grandmother meeting her granddaughters for the first time. I hope news writers and reporters can see that it is just as important to focus on the good in the world as it is to inform people on necessary information that they need to live on from day to day (like the weather.)
