The most controversial moment of the 2011 BET Awards was also the most awkward!
Chris Brown and Rihanna were the subjects of controversy June 26 at the 2011 BET Awards — but not for the reason you’re probably thinking. When the time came for the Coca-Cola Viewer’s Choice Award, presenter Tiffany Green accidentally announced Chris as the winner, before quickly correcting herself and announcing Rihanna and Drake. I’m pretty sure the Drizzy one summed up everyone’s thoughts with his opening statement: “Well, this is awkward.”
To say that Tiffany took the flub hard would be an understatement:
“Bawling backstage,” she tweeted. “They totally f****d me up. … The tablet f****n said CHRIS BROWN….the TELEPROMPTER said Rihanna. What the F**K?????? Goin home.”
But here’s the real question: Did someone at BET get in trouble for this major mix-up, or was the whole thing planned from the start? Tiffany, sure seems to think so:
“So BET did that on purpose,” she tweeted later that night. “Oh. I feel better.”
Watch the whole awkward encounter below, then vote: Do you think, like Tiffany, that the whole thing was staged?
