Lenny Kravitz says he never had heard of ‘The Hunger Games’ trilogy until the director, Gary Ross, asked him to play Cinna — and now he’s addicted!
Originally, when we pictured Cinna — the legendary costume designer who turns Katniss into a real mockingjay in The Hunger Games trilogy, Lenny Kravitz wasn’t the first actor who came to our minds. However, after we let the idea simmer, we quickly saw why the creative and unique artist is PERFECT for the role — and now he’s opening up about how excited he is to jump into the part.
“I’m really excited to be playing Cinna,” he told Rolling Stone. “Reading the book, I’m seeing everything – the Capitol, the arena, all this stuff. This world is going to be incredible.”
When Gary Ross, the film’s director, first called Lenny about playing Cinna, he had never even heard of The Hunger Games.
“Now, I hadn’t read the book yet, so I didn’t know what it was,” Kravitz said. “I go out and get the book, read it – oh, wow.”
Lenny is mostly known for his music, but he wowed audiences with his memorable performance in the award-winning film, Precious, a couple years ago and is ready to hit the big screen once again.
“I’m not just trying to push my [movie] career forward to push it forward,” he said. “I want to do the right things. Precious was a great way to start, really low-key, and now this. We’ll see where it goes from here.”
