After two years of dating, George has split with his gorgeous girlfriend Elisabetta — do you think George is just a commitment-phobe?

George Clooney is single … again. George, 50, and Elisabetta Canalis, 32, have just released a statement confirming the breakup: “We are not together anymore. It’s very difficult and very personal and we hope everyone can respect our privacy.”

This is somewhat surprising since the inseparable couple were spotted sharing a candlelit dinner last week near George’s Lake Como home in Italy. Elisabetta even hinted in Chi that she and George might marry.

“I am a firm believer in marriage. In the future I will be married,” she said. “But for the time being I am as happy as I am, I don’t need anything to confirm how happy I am.”

But by the sounds of the statement, it doesn’t sound like there’s much room for a reconciliation. George has notoriously been one of Hollywood’s playboys — and hasn’t settled down since his divorce to Talia Balsam in 1993.
