And right in time for Father’s Day! Check out these truly amazing photos!
Heather Carroll, 30, of Dallas County, Alabama spent weeks in a Birmingham, Alabama hospital before finally delivering her six babies, five girls and one boy, 12 weeks premature on Saturday morning, June 21. And some of the remarkable moments of the THREE minute birthing period (yes, she delivered all six by Caesarean section from 8:05 to 8:08) was caught on camera!
Over 50 medical professionals at the Brookwood Medical Center helped deliver the sextuplets, who ranged in weight from 1lb., 10 oz. to 2lbs., 5 oz.
And Heather’s husband Mitchell was over the moon with excitement — he got to celebrate Father’s Day in style! “I’m on top of the world,” he told the Birmingham News. “Everything this morning was perfect.”
And don’t just assume the sextuplets are the couple’s first children — they already have one at home, 2-year-old Grant!
“Heather and Mitchell Carroll were committed to this journey, their family and community were supportive, and God was faithful,” Dr. Bill McKenzie says. “I am so proud of this mother’s toughness and appreciative for the excellent preparation and care she received at Brookwood Medical Center.”
The hospital staff had six formal run throughs in preparation for the delivery, which ran as smoothly as possible. “They all came out crying and breathing by themselves,” one of the neonatologist says of the babies, “although they did require help in the delivery room and are on ventilators at the moment.”
Congrats to Heather and Mitchell!
