Robert Pattinson & BFF Tom Sturridge BOTH Tried Out For Penn Badgley's Jeff Buckley Role!

Tue, June 21, 2011 4:48pm EST by 2 Comments confirmed with our original source that Rob DID in fact try out to play Jeff Buckley and lost the role to Penn in ‘Greetings from Tim Buckley’. PLUS Tom did as well — watch his audition tape!

When Penn Badgley scored the role of famed musician Jeff Buckley in upcoming movie Greetings from Tim Buckley, he beat out a group of highly talented actors who also auditioned for the part. previously reported that Penn received the role, although we were incorrect over which Jeff Buckley movie he was starring in, since there are two separate projects in the works. However, we spoke to our original source who asserts that Robert Pattinson did try out for the exact role Penn did! Additionally, we’ve stumbled across what looks like Tom Sturridge‘s audition tape for the same role!

In the video below, a messy-haired Tom is reading lines as Jeff Buckley. We see him reciting his audition from various angles as an off-camera female voice reads another part. We wish we could get our hands on Rob’s audition tape! Wonder if Rob and his best friend Tom discussed each other’s auditions for the same part.

Once we realized we were mistaken over which Jeff Buckley movie Penn was cast in, we contacted our original source about Rob’s involvement in Greetings from Tim Buckley. Our insider reveals, “Rob did try out to play Jeff for ‘Greetings from Tim Buckley’. He was upset he didn’t get the part.”

Good news for Rob! The casting process for the other Jeff Buckley film, the biopic movie being executive produced by Jeff’s mother, will likely begin in October, according to film co-producer Orian Williams. Orian also admits he has had preliminary meetings with Rob. So there is still a chance Rob could live out his dream to play Jeff Buckley!
