It’s Confirmed: The 'Glee' Cast Is All Grown Up And Will Graduate!

Tue, June 21, 2011 9:03pm EDT by 20 Comments

Glee just finished its second music-packed season by losing at Nationals in New York. The third season, which will be airing this fall is going to be full of surprises that many people will be shocked to see.

This season marks change in Glee Club…the cast is getting old, which can only mean one thing, they must graduate! Creator Ryan Murphy spoke about the future of Glee and what will happen next.

Ryan called into On Air With Ryan Seacrest June 17 and spilled some serious details about the future of Glee. When asked about when the cast would graduate and grow up, he responded, “The thing that I wanted to do and the cast wanted to do, we didn’t want to have a show where they were in high school for 8 years. We really wanted it to be true to that experience. We thought it would be really cool if we were true to the timeline.”

That does sound cool, but what is Glee Club without Finn and Rachel’s high school love issues and Puck dedicating “Fat Bottom Girls” to his new sweetheart, Lauren Zizes? And life without Brittany’s fabulous one-liners seems unimaginable.

Luckily, not everyone will leave — it will be a progression, which will also include adding new characters this season.

“We’ve got Matt Morrison and Jane Lynch who will stay and be the male and female lynchpins of the series, but I think the fun thing about the show is it’s a celebration of youth and talent and I think that just like with the original cast, I think finding those young unknown people and giving them an opportunity to break into the business and become stars is a really fun and exciting thing and is the spirit of the series,” Ryan explained.

Good thing we still have the Sue Sylvester and Will Schuester banter to keep us grounded!

The next season will be interesting to say the least, especially since one of the contestants on The Glee Project will be joining the cast for about seven episodes. Maybe if we are lucky we will get a love interest for Mercedes, she totally deserves a man of her own!

What do you think about Glee Club graduating?

I hope the new characters don’t look like a bunch of 30-year-olds trying to look like they even belong in a high school. Am i the only one bothered by the fact that the current cast looks wwwaaaaayyyy to old? It’s unrealistic.

They need to hire younger actors cause they’re not fooling anybody.

they should graduate! they’re getting old for high school! and time won’t stand still for them! however, a new set of characters should be about right. the show doesn’t have to end only because the originals will have moved on! there will be others, in fact, a lot to choose from to fill in their shoes! should not be the end of glee with the old ones gone! they’ll be missed though ..

they should end the show after they graduate because it would be weird watching a show without it’s original characters

well, if the new cast could sing and perform just as good as the old cast, then i’ll still keep on watching glee.

Preach it girl! Or follow them onto their new lives if anything or Blaine, Kurt, and Rachel in New York or something, to me it’s like if they changed the Harry Potter cast halfway through. It would NOT be the same, I would be unhappy, and I would stop watching. This will be Glee if they don’t keep the characters we LOVE. It is NOT the same Ryan, it NEVER will be!

Not everyone will graduate so some will remain behind and they’ve never specified what grade each character is in… after all they cant all be in the same grade, that’s stupid.
I think Puk, Brittany, Kurt, Sam and maybe Rachel will stay back after season 3. The way they’ve built up these roles may lead to them not graduating.

Um I think it would just be weird if they didn’t graduate. I can’t suspend my disbelief that much! And since he found characters that we love this much, I’m sure the newbies will be fabulous as well! Looking forward to the future of GLEE!

There is clearly an error with this article. You said you were hoping for Mercedes to get a love interest. Her and Sam became a couple in the season finale. There isn’t a need for a new character to play her love interest.
