You voted Ian Somerhalder & Nina Dobrev the hottest couple at the 2011 MMVAs — and we can see why!

Selena Gomez may have played hostess at the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards, but I think we can all agree the real stars of the show were The Vampire Diaries super-couple Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev. This was technically the first major red carpet they walked as a couple, and it should go without saying that they totally nailed it. Read on for photos and video of their big night, including their stage time with Nina’s fellow Canadian Justin Bieber.

Their arrival:

From the minute Ian and Nina exited their limo, it was madness. I’m talking, like, Beatles-style screaming girls.

And while Nina played it cool — “I’m excited to see Selena,” she told the Fuse correspondant — Ian was slightly less diplomatic as to why he showed up:

“Who am I most excited to see tonight? … Nina Dobrev,” he answered without hesitation.

Their stage time:

After giving a shout out to her hometown peeps — she’s a Toronto girl, as all Degrassi fans can attest — Nina brought Ian out to tease a little of what we can expect from the third season of The Vampire Diaries.

And while even the cast doesn’t yet know what’s in store for the Mystic Falls gang, Ian did say that “Elena has a lot of explaining to do [after] crawling into bed with Damon and kissing him.”

(We agree!)

The banter continued as Selena asked how vampires can be both cold and hot, to which Nina asked the audience, “He’s hot, right guys?” (Cue the screams.)

And when Selena asked Ian which of Nina’s characters — Elena and Katherine — she’s more like, he said, “There’s a little of her in both of them… except she’s not a bitch like Katherine.”
