New mysteries piled up on the June 14 premiere of ‘Pretty Little Liars!’ Do YOU think Ian is really still alive?
During the hiatus, I forgot just how complicated Pretty Little Liars is — and the June 14 season premiere was happy to remind me. Aria (Lucy Hale), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) were sent to therapy this week, as no one believes them that Ian (Ryan Merriman) is really dead. And after this week’s episode, I’m not sure myself…
The girls were hesitant to share their messy backstory with their therapist (Annabeth Gish), and decided it would be impossible once they realized that “A” had essentially bugged her office. Confused by their paranoid behavior, Anne ultimately decided it would be best if the girls spent some time apart, and sadly, their parents all agreed.
Now let’s take a look at the crap each Liar had to deal with this week. (I don’t remember high school being this hard):
Aria & Ezra:
Ezria’s relationship was already a rocky road at the end of last season, but this week’s premiere added a few major potholes. “A” revealed to Aria that he/she/they have a key to Ezra’s (Ian Harding) apartment, proving it by stealing his diploma and sneaking it into the girls’ therapist’s office.
Now Aria needs to have a little talk with her statutory boyfriend about changing his locks — but will that also lead to her spilling the beans about “A” and everything else he isn’t yet privy to?
Hanna & Caleb:
These two kids… I can’t even handle the drama. As hinted in the finale, Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) returned to Rosewood this week to patch things up with Hanna, but she wasn’t quite as receptive to his apology as he — or the viewers — had hoped. She told Caleb she could never forgive him for using her, even after he told her about the letter he gave to Mona (Janel Parrish.)
And speaking of that little bitch Mona, we also learned she’s now dating my personal favorite blackmailer, Noel (Brant Daugherty.) As Brant foretold in my interview with him, Noel is back full-time at Rosewood High — but whose side is he on?
Spencer & Toby:
Like Troian told us a few weeks ago, Spencer and Toby (Keegan Allen) are really trying to make their relationship work — but it’s a little tough, considering their families are doing everything they can to keep them apart. Aside from a few distant glances and a late-night rendezvous in Spencer’s living room (are her parents ever home?), “Spoby” didn’t get too much screen time this week.
So… is Ian really dead?
That’s the million dollar question, and of course we didn’t exactly get a solid answer by the end of the episode. When Spencer noticed a text on Melissa’s (Torrey DeVitto) phone that was supposedly sent by Ian, she called the girls together for one of their classic “S.O.S.” meetings. And when the person who texted Melissa correctly guessed the name of her and Ian’s future baby — Taylor, as it turns out — the girls that decided Ian must still be alive…
