Eva got her start with makeup by using crayons and watercolors … on her face!

Eva Longoria is InStyle‘s July cover girl and she spills on her deserted island beauty necessities and why the crayons came into play.

The actress told InStyle, “I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup when I was young. I would melt crayons and try to put them on my lips, and I would use watercolors for eye shadow.”

Watercolors maybe, but crayons? I don’t know about that beauty trick!

Eva also has to touch up her eyes and lips and loves a little sparkle.

“Mascara is very important. If I were on a desert island, I would have to have mascara and lip balm,” said Eva. “I’m naturally tan, but I like to use a bronzing powder or something to make my skin look shimmery.”

So HollywoodLifers, if you were stranded on a deserted island what beauty products would you need with you?
