Photos of Gabby Giffords released by her campaign show the congresswoman as she recovers from a gunshot wound to the head.
Gabrielle Giffords is all smiles outside of a medical center in Houston, Texas on May 17, the day after her husband Mark Kelly’s NASA shuttle launch. The pics were posted to her Facebook page on June 12. These are the first images of her recovery.
“These photos reveal an upbeat image of Gabrielle Giffords. When you see the pictures you see that she has progressed in leaps and bounds. When they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, if ever that was true, it is true here,” her rep, C.J. Karamargin, tells PEOPLE.
On January 8, Giffords was shot in the head in an alleged assassination attempt by Jared Lee Loughner. Loughner had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

That left picture was taken three DAYS before the shooting. It was early Jan 2011.
