Rumors have been swirling that Hailee Steinfeld ‘s character had a nude scene, but the script has been edited so that she no longer shows skin. Thank goodness!
The ladies of The View threw around rumors that True Grit actress Hailee Stienfeld, 14, would have to take off her clothes in a scene for the upcoming movie Romeo and Juliet — but fortunately, that’s no longer going to happen!
The film’s director, Carlo Carlei, told Entertainment Weekly the script has been revised for Hailee.
“In the original adaptation…there was a lovemaking scene that included nudity for the married Romeo and Juliet. This script was written with a 20-year-old actress in mind,” he said. “As soon as Hailee Steinfeld was cast, all nudity and lovemaking have been excised from the script. It will be romantic and age-appropriate for a 14-year-old.”
UK’s Sunday Times and Daily Mail both released part of the movie’s script that required Hailee‘s character to disrobe.
“They start undressing each other – slowly, gently and carefully until they are naked. They are eternal figures in a Raphael painting. Romeo then carries her to bed, kissing her again and again as they explore uncharted territory. Then they make love, transported into each other’s soul.”
We’re glad the script has been revised for Hailee — we cannot wait to see her as Juliet!

Why is it so bad that she’d be naked? Isabella Nightingale was nude, showing full frontal at the age of 11 in “The Spy Who Caught a Cold,” Brooke Shields was 13 in “Pretty Baby” when she was completely naked. Simonetta Stefanelli was 16 when she was nude in “The God Father.”
Just because a girl is 12, 14, 5 or 40 doesn’t make a difference except on how their body will appear. The deciding factor should be the maturity and intelligence and comfort level of the actress. Of course the subject matter should be considered also, a 5 year old does not need to be having sex whether implied or explicit. But two teenagers discovering sex for the first time as part of their character development to build on the overall story? There’s no problem with showing some, implying some, and explicitly showing a little bit like kissing and such.
In this instance Hailee is very talented, mature and beautiful. If she was comfortable being naked then I think she should be encouraged in that role. And I do not think that this would “trash” her career at all.
