A New Mexico woman was sentenced to 25 years in prison after spending the majority of her daughter’s life playing video games while the girl starved to death.

Rebecca Colleen Christie called 911 to her home after she found her 3-year-old daughter Brandi unconscious. Doctors who examined Brandi found her to be badly malnourished, with her ribs protruding. She weighed only 23 pounds! Doctors couldn’t save her.

Investigators found that as Brandi clung to life on that day, a computer in the house remained active from noon until 3:00 AM. Christie, 28, had been ignoring Brandi to play the online fantasy game World of Warcraft. Day after day, for hours at a time, Christie played the game, neglecting to give Brandi food or water.

Towards the end of her life, Brandi grew so hungry she resorted to eating cat litter. Just devastating.

Christie was charged with second degree murder and child abandonment back in November 2009, three years after Brandi’s death, and has now been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Her ex-husband, Sgt. Derek Wulf, was also charged in relation to Brandi’s death. Wulf admitted to the courts that he had come home on multiple occasions to find his daughter without food or water because Christie was too busy on the computer. So sad.
