Rihanna Defends Her Murderous Video: 'I'm Only A 23-Year-Old Rockstar With No Kids!'

Rihanna responds to critics who say she’s making a horrible example by killing a man in her ‘Man Down’ music video and says it’s not her responsibility to ‘be a parent.’ Do YOU think the video is inappropriate?

In her new music video for “Man Down,” Rihanna plays a young woman who is presumably raped outside a night club and seeks revenge on her rapist, eventually killing him with a gun. And despite receiving relentless criticism for being a bad role model, the 23-year-old singer isn’t apologizing for her violent and dark video — in fact, she’s defending it with a vengeance!

“I’m a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What’s up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I’m just a girl, I can only be your/our voice!” Rihanna tweeted in response to her haters June 2. “Cuz we all know how difficult/embarrassing it is to communicate touchy subject matters to anyone especially our parents!”

Her Twitter defense didn’t stop there — she continued on her rampage, writing, “And this is why!Cuz we turn the other cheek! U can’t hide your kids from society,or they’ll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD!”

And, “WeLOVEManDown.”

She finished with, “The music industry isn’t exactly Parents R Us! We have the freedom to make art, LET US! Its your job to make sure they dont turn out like US.”

As much as we love Rihanna, we can’t help but wonder if she’s getting defensive because the video hits so close to home. Although the situation in the movie is more extreme than her real life, it feels pointed at her abusive ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown.

Do YOU think Rihanna is setting a bad example in her music video or is it not her responsibility to be a role model?  Sound off below!

She has a responsibility to be a role model… but she isnt responsible to be a parent. The children that listen to this song, or any of her music are their parents responsibility. Its her music.. Why weren’t you calling her out with S & M?
