The newly crowned Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are glowing in the just released photograph taken by esteemed photographer Mario Testino and friend of the late Princess Diana — this is yet another tribute to dear Diana.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are radiating love as they grace the July issue of Vanity Fair. The royal couple were photographed at St. James’ Palace last November, right after they announced their engagement to the world. The gorgeous photo is one of many taken by Mario Testino, the man responsible for the now iconic photograph of Princess Diana in a gorgeous black gown, which was featured 14 years ago in the 1997 July issue of Vanity Fair.
It’s not just a coincidence that William and Kate decided to release their photo in the same magazine and month as the Prince’s late mother.
“I guess it was a way for them to keep William’s mother in the whole process of it,” Mario says of why he was chosen to take their photos. “‘They are a young couple in love.” Adding that they were filled with “sheer happiness” during the shoot.
This is just one of many gestures that Prince William and his new bride made to include William’s mom. Not only did William propose to Kate with his mother’s gorgeous 18.5 carat Sapphire engagement ring, but they held their wedding in Westminster Abbey. The same location that Princess Diana’s funeral was held after her untimely death in August of 1997. Even though his mum couldn’t be there, the couple made sure to include her by singing a special hymn in honor of her.
During the shoot, Mario described the couple as “giggly” as they watched their own home video of the royal wedding. Ahem, the most watched wedding in the world! But more secrets will be revealed in this issue — Kate and William had a special request of Philadelphia cream cheese and Brussel sprouts while on their romantic honeymoon in the Seychelles.
The happy couple are gearing up to head to Canada and California next month for their first official trip since being married. This new issue of Vanity Fair hits stands June 3!
