Chaz Bono Admits Dad Sonny Used To Call Him 'Fred!' And, The Jolie-Pitts Call Shiloh, 'John!' Is There A Link?

More similarities between Chaz and Shiloh are popping up. The son of Cher and Sonny Bono admits he used to like being called ‘Fred’ while growing up — as a girl. And we know Shiloh wants to be called ‘John.’

Brad Pitt confessed to Oprah in 2008 that his daughter Shiloh, 5, with Angelina Jolie, insists on being called John.  “John, I’m John,” he explained, “It’s a Peter Pan thing.” Well, it must have been a Flinstones thing for Chaz Bono, 42, when he grew up as Chasity, because he liked being called “Fred!”

Unlike mom Cher, Chaz’s father Sonny Bono didn’t see his daughter go through her gender-reassignment surgery. But apparently Sonny already had a male nickname for Chastity (now Chaz) when she was a young girl.

“He called me Fred,” Chaz tells Jay Leno on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

“We were in Palm Springs one weekend, and there was this toy store that I used to love to go. We were in there looking, I don’t know if it was mugs or key chains – stuff that had people’s name on them. They never had my name, so my dad said, ‘Pick a name – what do you think of Fred? And I apparently really liked it,’ Chaz adds. “It stuck for quite some time.”

And Shiloh, who Chaz hinted showed signs of being transgender, likes to be called by a boy’s name as well as dress like a boy. “…we’ve got to call her John. ‘Shi, do you want …’ – ‘John. I’m John,'” Brad explains of Shiloh’s nickname.

“And then I’ll say, ‘John, would you like some orange juice?’ And she goes, ‘No!'”

Do you think this hints at something or is Shiloh just being a typical tomboy? Share your thoughts!

OK, but does Shiloh still like to be called that? C’mon, Brad said that back in 2008. It’s been 3 years. Who cares, anyway? She’s a healthy, loved child. That is what’s important.

That was over 2 years ago Bonnie and Shiloh was a two-year old. Get a grip!!! You don’t know anything about that child and you never will unless her parents tell you.

I think it is so inappropriate that this is even printed! She is 5 years old and speculating on who she is or what she sees herself to be is so wrong. Personally I think Chaz would be the last person the Jolie-Pitts would ask for advice. I bet that they don’t even see it as a “problem”. Back off of this beautiful little spirit!

Ditto! Shiloh will be who she wants to be with the support & loving guidance of her parents & family. My daughter wanted to be called “GI Joe” during her tomboy period. We celebrated her during this time. She gifted us with a beautiful grand-daughter who went through a short period of wanted to be called, “Sam.” We’re celebrating her during this time. Beautiful little spirits need love & support. Shiloh has that from her parents & family.

I think its crazy for Chaz to call out Shiloh like she/he has. Mind your own business Chaz! Angelina and Brad are great parents because they’re letting their child be themselves, and accenting them for however they wanna be. She could just be a tomboy who prefers to dress like her brothers, let her be, don’t speculate, she’s only 5. And in this day in age all names tend to be unisex, so Fred, and John don’t specifically mean a “boy”
