Lorena's 'The Voice' Recap: The Girl Who Cried About Being Pretty Goes Home!

‘The Voice’ battle round eliminated four more singers tonight! I can’t wait for the live shows to begin!

Kelsey “I’m so pretty I make myself cry about it” Rey went home tonight on The Voice after failing to out-sing the ever-adorable Tori and Taylor Thompson girls. Kelsey, who admittedly is gorgeous, made herself memorable when she wept real tears in the blind auditions after FINALLY feeling validated for being more than just a pretty face. She’s not just good-looking people, she can sing. Although apparently, not well enough to make it to the live shows.

I’m being harsh. I actually thought Kelsey did a great job of holding her own stage, performing “Unwritten” alongside Tori and Taylor. Adam Levine declared the threesome’s performance so “cute” he couldn’t choose, and Blake Shelton pointed out that Kelsey was a more seasoned singer, but that T&T were improving. It could have (rightfully) gone either way and Cee Lo had such a hard time deciding he took off his sunglasses and wiped his eyes. Kelsey is so pretty it makes Cee Lo cry too.

Kelsey wasn’t the only one going home, Serabee‘s powerful (if that’s even the right description?) performance was a little too aggressive for coach Blake to swallow. She sang against slash completely intimidated Dia Frampton with her “You Can’t Hurry Love” rendition which overpowered Dia’s carefree and pure tone. Cee Lo described the duet as “bizarre” and to be honest, that was kind of him. The mixing of the two girls was a complete disaster, Christina Aguilera‘s raised eyebrows said it all.

I think Blake made the right decision choosing Dia. “Just because you can sing certain notes doesn’t mean you have to do it all the time,” he scolded Serabee. “Dia, you looked uncomfortable. You probably were uncomfortable and I don’t blame you for looking that way.”

Raquel Castro and Julia Eason sang “Only Girl in the World” and Julia’s nerves seemed to hinder her unique tone; Christina chose youngest competitor Raquel to go through to the next round. Adam’s Devon Barley and Rebecca Loebe were my favorite duet of the night with their haunting rendition of “Creep”. I actually liked Rebecca a little better than Devon but Adam sent her home, prematurely announcing his decision on Twitter like he did last week. (Stop that!)

I feel like this episode had “middle child syndrome”, it made me start to get bored of these battle rounds. The first battle round was nail-biting, the second had powerhouse Javier Colon, and from the previews, the final round looks like it could be the most shocking yet! From the previews, it looks like two of the contestants might kiss … but maybe I’m overreacting.

What do you think is going to happen next week? And were any of your favorites eliminated tonight? Discuss the episode below! (I included footage of Kelsey’s original tears in case you missed it the first time).
