This tragic story in the death of a toddler is taking a turn that no one saw coming.
The evidence against Casey Anthony has been pretty overwhelming since her 2008 arrest for the alleged murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Her trial began Tuesday with a shocking claim from Casey’s defense attorney, Jose Baez, who argued that the little girl was never missing to begin with, but instead drowned accidentally in the family’s swimming pool.
Caylee went missing in June 2008, but Casey didn’t report it for a month. The young child’s remains were found in December of the same year, only half a mile from the home that Caylee shared with her mother and grandparents. Between the strange 911 call from the grandmother, Cindy, claiming that her daughter’s car smelled like a “dead body,” and the numerous photos of Casey partying with friends on the nights following Caylee’s disappearance, most fingers pointed directly at the seemingly young, irresponsible mother.
This is the first time that Casey’s side of the story has ever been told, and while Casey’s defense admits that she was negligent in not reporting her daughter missing, they also say there’s a dark reason behind it.
Her lawyer claims that Casey has been a long time victim of sexual abuse by her father. “You will hear stories about a family that is incredibly dysfunctional, you will hear about ugly things, secret things, things that people don’t speak about,” Baez said.
What do you think, Hollymoms — Is Casey’s behavior the result of years of abuse or is she a cold-blooded killer who’s had time to develop an alibi?
