‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Jesse Williams says he hopes his character continues his relationship with Lexie and dishes on who he thinks would drop the ‘L word’ first! Check out his Young Hollywood Awards interviews!
Jesse Williams took home the “TV Actor of the Year Award” presented by Veer at the 2011 Young Hollywood Awards presented by Bing on Friday in LA. Before accepting the award from Grey’s Anatomy costar Ellen Pompeo, Jesse spoke to us both on the red carpet and from the cocktail party about Jackson Avery’s relationship with Lexie Grey, and his hopes for their future. Plus he weighs in on Mer/Der’s relationship troubles!
“I’m excited about where it can go,” says Jesse about Avery’s relationship with Lexie continuing into season eight. “I’m excited about giving Jackson somebody in his life that he can actually grow with and [everybody can] see the hell who this guy is. As an actor you want to figure out how to develop a character. and developing characters very much has to do with you relationships and the difficulties you go through and stuff like that.”
Jesse explains that Dr. Avery has been playing everything “close to the vest” and has been a “mysterious floater” so he’d like to show the audience more of his personality.
So who does he think would say “I love you” first, Lexie or Avery? “That’s tough. I would have said Lexie until this past couple episodes,” confesses Jesse. “They are both kind of suckers for love [...] they both get caught up in their own momentum [...] he’s all about his job and pressure from his grandfather [but then] he gets bowled over with this platonic relationship. [Avery] just can’t help himself with Lexie. You never know it could be him!”
Jesse also admitted that Meredith and Derek “are the rock the show is built around” and said he doesn’t know what is going to happen with their storyline next season. “We are seeing some cracks,” he confessed about the season finale’s disconcerting ending.
Jesse was honored to take home the TV Actor of the Year trophy and said, “I’m sure it’s a mistake. It’s very humbling.” Congratulations Jesse!
The Young Hollywood Awards will be on TV for the very first time! Tune in to see the show on ION Television on Thursday, May 26 at 9 pm ET/PT — check your local listings for channel and time.
