Gender reveal parties are becoming a huge hit among adventurous expectant parents.
The concept is simple — instead of letting you know the gender of your baby when you undergo the routine 20-week ultrasound scan, your doctor seals the secret in an envelope.
You then take the envelope to a baker and ask them to make a cake that’s blue or pink (depending on the sex), and frost it in a gender-neutral icing.
The sex is then unveiled at a party when you slice the cake open.
While it might seem too bizarre for many moms and dads to be – the trend is taking off big-time. New York baker Aliyyah Baylor is now taking five orders a week and the phenomenon is still growing.
Some couples are even taping their parties and posting the ‘big reveal’ on YouTube.
Teacher and mommy-to-be Janine Hefemann explains the appeal: “I just thought it was so nice that everyone was there at the same time to find out. The suspense of the whole thing was probably the best part.”
Would you do this HollyMoms?
