'American Idol' Shocker: Haley Reinhart Gets Eliminated!

Thu, May 19, 2011 9:51pm EDT by 36 Comments

After 95 million votes, Haley Reinhart and her fans are stunned she didn’t make it to the finals!

Scotty Mcreery, 17, and Lauren Alaina, 16, are the final two standing to be the next American Idol — but after the praise Haley Reinhart received during her final performance May 18, it was almost a given she would get enough votes to make it to the finals.

However, this season shocking departures have been the name of the game. (We’re still reeling over James Durbin‘s unexpected elimination!) Nevertheless, Haley — a 20-year-old Chicago native — has defied the odds and outlasted several near eliminations up until this point.

At this point, Scotty is easily the front runner, but are we due for another shock when the American Idol finale takes place May 24th?

We can’t wait!

HollywoodLifers, who do YOU think will win American Idol this season? Sound off below!

Now I can’t even be bothered watching the final – should have been a James Durbin vs Haley Reinhart final, that would have blown everyone away. Who was it that won against Adam Lambert – ask yourself – same situation, Adam should have won! James Durbin is incredible and he will make it big – Haley Reinhart is amazing and she will make it big. If NZ could vote James Durbin would have won that competition – ABSOLUTE CHARISMA, AMAZING VOICE, COMPLETE PACKAGE – American Idol is a joke.

What a relief that Haley is gone. I could never buy a DVD that went from one growling raspy song to another. But the deal breaker is her attitude of entitlement that she deserves to win. After she spent the first few weeks slinking around on the stage trying to get voted ahead by her perception of what sexy is she finally got her just reward albeit many weeks too late. A shame for others who much more deserved her spot.

Haley should have left a long time ago. Last night reactions only proved that karma worked on her fast. Her laughing and her smirks at James the week before finally caught up with her. No sincerity, no consideration, she will no go far in life with that attitute. Na na na na hey hey hey goodbye.

Haley developed into the only professional on the show and that includes Jen Lopez.

I think Haley had stage presence; but not a voice that would really sell music. That raspy sounding voice went out with Fleetwood mack. Lauren and Scotty clearly have natural talent and belong in the top two. I can think of other contestants that should have outlasted Hayley.

Personally, I think Haley should have been gone weeks ago. I wish Pia was still on the show but that was a huge mistake! Haley can take her “growl” somewhere else…america or at least I don’t want to hear it. I love Scotty and Lauren both and I don’t really care who wins between them to i’m just glad that Haley was voted off and that she didn’t win…

I don’t like the “judging system” it manipulates, what people don’t know is the show is prejudged and it wouldn’t make any different if one hundered million voted by phone. the economy is the same the rich powerful phone companys are richer $$$$$$ remember the show is already “prejudged” my thought is the show is to star studded, the show would be a blast if they used regular people, “after all it is about the people right” until this judging staff changes no one can expect a fair judgment…

I think Haley should have been gone from American Idol many weeks ago. She can sing and has done well but her attitude put her at the bottom every week in my opinion. She always acted like she was the best, no humility at all. I think it was apparent that she always thought she was the best by the look on her face when she got eliminated. Priceless.

You need to quit judging people by their looks.

I’ll admit, she is talented but she had an awful attitude, her reaction when she got booted said it all, she thought she had it in the bag. She was too cocky. I wanted to see Scotty, Lauren and James as the top 3, 2 out of 3 isn’t bad.

The only shocker is that she didn’t go home a long time ago but at least she didn’t make it to the finale.

Haley is the best singer of all three contestants by far to me. But then again I am not a big country music fan. I also loved James, and Casey. Haley was clearly the best singer of 5-18-2011. Scotty should of gone home.

If American Idol is a vocal contest, Haley should have won a long time ago.

VERY upset she got sent home. She was the best singer there out of those three for sure. It’s very sad to see this happen to such a great singer and it was quite obvious American Idol wanted Lauren/Scotty to be in the bottom two. I’m sure Haley has a big career ahead though.

Thanks for making clear that Idol is a high school popularity contest, *not* a vocal contest.

American Idol wanted Lauren and Scotty in the bottom two ? Isn’t it the fans that vote? Judges just critique. Typical though…blame it on American Idol when your girl/guy don’t win. Give me a break…

She deserved to win. But most of the voters have no inkling of what talent is, they are voting for the “cute” boy and non-threatening nice fat girl. Notice how all these jealous women hate her? It’s not her attitude, it’s her body.

Hahahahaha. So true. I still am shocked underwood could overcome these facts. But she was so darn sweet you couldn’t even have a jealous hate over her beauty. Regardless, scotty and lauren are both sweet and talented and tho I think haley is a much better performer and professional than either of them, Im ok with the result and feel confident ill have a chance to buy haleys music in the future.

Wow, you guys are really catty. Haley was the only one who ever got criticized and after she actually became a threat to the producers’ chosen one (Lauren) the judges just started to bash her, regardless of how great her performance was. She never had an attitude, she was just trying not to cry before another performance. Did you see when they called all four contestants out on stage, which they never do? It was just so Randy could tell her, just minutes before her next performance, that it was a three way tie between everyone but her, after he had already inanely bashed her first song. As they cut to commercial she turned away, obviously about to cry, but pulled it together for an amazing performance. Of course she was surprised when she was eliminated, how would you react? And she gave one of the season’s best performances in her exit song, proving how talented she is. I love Lauren’s voice, but she hasn’t lived up to her potential, and Scotty is likable but has a really limited range and makes the most distracting facial expressions and mic holding during his songs. I like them both and wish them the best, and I love country music, but Haley was the most vocally skilled and the best performer of the bunch and got by on sheer talent, not editing and demographics. I don’t see why there is so much personal venom being spewed on this site.
