The idea is the brainchild of a British father-of-two who claims conventional prenatal classes left him scratching his head.
Dean Beaumont claims his DaddyNatal sessions add a humorous spin to pregnancy and childbirth, and better prepare future fathers for the challenges ahead of them!
“Before the birth of my first child, I read the books, attended the couples [pre-natal] classes and felt I had prepared. But it was a complicated labor and I was left with feelings of guilt that I had failed to fully support my partner,” Dean, 43, from Northamptonshire, England, tells the Daily Mail.
His classes are more geared towards men and include discussions and screenings of comedy sketches related to childbirth: “I realized there was a gap and set up the first antenatal classes to be run by men for men. We can use male humor that perhaps wouldn’t go down so well in a mixed setting. It’s laid back and we can openly admit we’re terrified of birth.”
The DaddyNatal classes are even being funded by Britain’s National Health Service, which means they’re free of charge on a first-come, first-serve basis!
