Lorena's 'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: Is Meredith On The Verge Of Losing Everything?

Tonight’s episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” was full of backstabbing and betrayal — did you gasp as often as I did?

I am so disappointed in the Grey’s Anatomy doctors tonight. The race for Chief Resident brought out the ugly in many of Seattle Grace’s finest, and I’m sorry to see it happen. In the midst of the surgical competition, Meredith tried to prove she was a good mother, only to have her career possibly blow up in her face in the last minute!

Owen Hunt conducted his Chief Resident interviews in tonight’s episode, which resulted in no sex from Christina so that he could remain impartial. In the end though, after she tries to go behind Teddy Altman’s back (and then subsequently gets backstabbed by a rules-obsessed April) to perform surgery on a man with a tree in his lung, Owen reveals Christina was never qualified for the job. “You never had the qualifications,” he explains to a shocked Dr. Yang. “You are a surgeon … You will resent and fight against [working the system] until you fail. You’re a surgeon. It’s what you are. Just be excellent at what you are.” Christina eventually forgives him but only after revealing to Alex Karev her opinion that Meredith Grey will win Chief Resident. Which leads him to do the unthinkable.

Speaking of — ALEX NOOOOOOOOO! What were you THINKING? Alex spends this episode trying to decide whether he should go to Africa, and eventually decides he shouldn’t because he has feelings for Lucy. He tells her he “never thinks of a future with anyone” because he’s always worried about getting “kicked in the teeth.” He basically tries to be nice for once and Lucy rewards him by revealing she stole his job. Just what a guy like Alex needs to send him spiraling downward into a place where he’s taking shots and revealing to Owen that Meredith messed with the Alzheimer’s trial.

Poor Meredith. I know she messed with the trial but she was just trying to help the Chief’s wife get better! Her emotional involvement with the disease got the best of her. Meanwhile, how adorable was her awkward interview with the adoption agency representative? She totally lit up when speaking about Zola’s surgery, connecting with her and bragging in the only way she knew how. “I’m Meredith and I’m hoping to be your mama,” she tells the precious baby. It seems like everything is going right but now we know, especially from the previews, that the rug will be pulled out from under her. (PS did anyone see the Christina pregnant storyline coming up? It was almost expected after the earlier storyline about her and Owen fighting over whether or not they’d have kids).

Other sweet moments in the episode included Mark’s interactions with Sofia, and Lexie watching Mark watch Sofia. I’m so torn because I love her and Avery (who totally caught her staring at Mark), but I think she’s meant to end up with Mr. I Have Everything … Almost. Briefly though, it was admirable of Jackson to turn down the Chief’s trial because he wants him to win the Avery award but I think Hunt had a point with saying he shouldn’t let his name hold him back.

Plus Teddy decides to move to Germany with the Professional Knight In Shining Armor just as Henry tries to admit his feelings!

So much happened in this episode — what did you think? What were your favorite storylines? And what do you think is going to happen in the season finale? Whose betrayal was the worst? Sound off below!
