Lorena's 'The Voice' Recap: I'm So Angry At Cee Lo For Making Vicci & Niki Rivals!

Forget YOU Cee Lo! You put super-talented singers Vicci Martinez and Niki Dawson together and they sounded so amazing I was devastated when one was eliminated!

The Voice aired its first post-blind auditions episode and man was it entertaining and more than a little sad. There was just so much talent on stage tonight, I didn’t envy judges/coaches Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green. Each coach had to pick between two of their own team members who were pitted against each other in a boxing ring, and the ending with ridiculously talented duo Vicci Martinez and Niki Dawson was really upsetting! Also, what did you think of the Patrick vs. Tyler decision?

Vicci and Niki were coached by Cee Lo Green and singer Monica (each coach had a friend available to assist them). They took to the stage/boxing ring to belt out a beautiful rendition of Pink’s “Perfect”. Their harmony was gorgeous and I really felt like I was watching a duet between artists who often worked together and were performing in concert. I mean, seriously, just listen to them in the video below — I’ve done so three times since it aired.

Cee Lo’s fellow coaches were equally impressed. Adam Levine rightfully called them the best duet of the night. Blake Shelton said it best: “When Cee Lo is old, he’s going to reflect on his life and think of the worst mistakes he’s made along the way, and one of them will be pairing you two against each other.”

I totally agree! Nonetheless, one had to be chosen and Cee Lo stuck with Vicci and her “raw” voice. I agreed with his decision, Vicci’s voice is so unique, but I don’t think Niki should not have been eliminated this early. The only comforting part of that ending was Cee Lo giving her a big hug and saying “You call me, I got you, I got you.”

Here’s a rundown of the other battles:

  • Tyler Robinson vs. Patrick Thomas: I love myself a country boy and think Patrick has a solid voice, but I don’t think I agree with Blake’s decision if you base it solely on their “Burnin’ Love” Elvis duet. I thought Tyler sounded a little more interesting than Patrick. I’m sure he had his reasons, and although I assume some will accuse him of being a homophobe, I’d like to reiterate that I don’t believe this is true.
  • Frenchie Davis vs. Tarralyn Ramsey: Christina Aguilera struggled with this decision but chose to let Frenchie stay as a devastated Tarralyn exited the ring. These girls had a lot of tension during practice for their “Single Ladies” duet and Christina tried to relieve it by referring to her infamous trip at the Grammys. “Even when I was on that stage at the Grammys, I stumbled on the train of my dress and Jennifer Hudson helped [me from falling].” See girls? Learn from the best!
  • Casey Weston vs. Tim Mahoney: Adam Levine’s pair sang “Leather and Lace” and Adam ultimately chose Casey saying “There’s just something about Casey Weston.” Tim, who called himself the “King of Almost” before the sing-off, was crushed as he left. Cee Lo’s vote had been with him, while Blake called Casey “addicting.” Christina liked complimenting all contestants rather than choose one until she absolutely had to.

Were you pleased with the judges’ decisions? Which duet did you love most? Watch the videos and sound off below!
