Woody Harrelson will play Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence’s alcoholic mentor in “The Hunger Games” — what do you think of this news?
Lionsgate Publicity just announced Woody Harrelson has been cast in the role of Haymitch in the eagerly anticipated The Hunger Games movie! The actor scored the coveted part of The Hunger Games victor who mentors Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) in the competition. Do you think he fits the role?
His name had previously been tossed around along with John C. Reilly, Robert Downey Jr., and Hugh Laurie. Haymitch is a “paunchy, middle-aged man” and the town drunk of District 12 who is responsible for helping Peeta and Katniss train for the deadly Hunger Games. He joins Effie, played by Elizabeth Banks, in escorting the two tributes from their home into the Capitol as they prep for their competition. Haymitch is one of the leading characters throughout the three novels.
The movie starts filming in North Carolina soon and is slated for a March 23, 2012 release.
