Are pet names obnoxious or adorable — and should you have one?
Kate Middleton and Prince William are clearly besotted with one another, and they’ve given one another royal nicknames to prove it. What do they call one another behind closed doors, and are these affectionate new monikers annoying or acceptable when you’re so in love?
In public, the new couple have officially become the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Kate is now called Catherine and William’s title as a search and rescue pilot is Flight Lieutenant William Wales, but at their farmhouse in Anglesey, Wales they’ve gone for something a little softer.
“For day-to-day life, they are the Cambridges,” a source tells Us Weekly. “But behind closed doors they are calling each other Mr. and Mrs. Wales. It’s cute.”
Although it’s their private nickname for one another, William did pull it out at the wedding reception hosted by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, announcing, “I’d like to raise a toast to Mrs. Wales.”
As far as nicknames go, William and Kate’s are pretty tame. In fact — dare I say it — their new ‘titles’ are actually really cute. Approval all around on this front!
But don’t you hate those embarrassing couples that call each other ‘honeybear’ and ‘sillyhead’ in public? Don’t be those people! If you’re going to have a pet name for your boyfriend, make it something funny and personal. As a rule of thumb, please remember this: anything involving kissing, love, bears or that makes your face pucker or your friends mock you in public is always a no-go.
Get it? Got it? Good.
