Kirstin On 'Idol:' Lauren Alaina Lands In The Bottom For The First Time

I love Lauren Alaina to death, but she was overly dramatic and insensitive to Jacob Lusk during the elimination on ‘American Idol’ May 5!

Lauren Alaina has never before been in the bottom this season on American Idol, so when she found out she wasn’t safe May 5, she wept like a baby. Fortunately, it wasn’t her who got the boot — but I still thought she overreacted to the situation.

Maybe, Lauren, 16, really was that fearful she was going home tonight. However, it seemed obvious from the beginning it was Jacob Lusk‘s time to say goodbye. Lauren has been a favorite to win the entire competition from the beginning (executive producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted about her in October when she auditioned for the first time!), so there was no doubt in my mind she’d be safe.

That said, watching her weep non-stop for minutes on end wasn’t attractive. Perhaps I’m the one being insensitive, but I felt badly for Jacob. He was the one getting the boot, but Lauren made the moment all about her.

James Durbin is the only contestant out of the four remaining who hasn’t ever been in the bottom two or three and it’s seeming more and more likely he’ll be the one who wins the whole competition.

okay, hl, NOW can we get rid of the pia pictures from the top of your idol section!?! PLEASE! if you’re so wed to her, maybe you can move her to the side… kinda sick of her mug flashing at me 2x from the top of the page every time i enter!

ps- i was proud of jacob for holding himself together and giving a good performance. he knew it was his time to go. i wish the best for him, and that he finds an old school gospel-y niche. i would support his career by buying his albums. good luck jacob.

lauren is still just a baby, i mean literally. it has been clear from the first time they criticized her that they have purposefully handled her with kid gloves b/c she cannot take criticism. it took so much to even get her to break out of her shell as much as she did this week (despite jimmy’s disappointment). personally, i don’t think she was crying over the votes, i think she was crying over what jimmy said. yes, it was “too much”- but it was honest. she’s just a little girl at heart, i think. i don’t think she’s ready for all of this, despite the fact that i think she is going to be a phenomenal performer. she’s inches away from having the courage to let go, and she did better this week, but i’m afraid that jimmy’s disappointment in her could go either way— scare her back into safety zone (in which case, she’ll be gone)… or, crossing fingers, give her that drive to just belt it out without holding back. i mean, she was beautiful on unchained melody, but she did pull back. i thought it was on purpose for a “tease” effect, until jimmy spoke. i can see why he was disappointed b/c as good as that was, if she had belted out on the key moments- we all would’ve been in tears and on our feet. i still did think she was much improved, but she’s still a scared little girl up there. i thought she broke out on the underwood song, and i found myself screaming, “FINALLY”- to see her push herself and show a little emotion! but she was a little timid on unchained melody, even though it was still beautiful. as for the others, i’m hoping for james and haley in the finals- i agree james lost it on his emotional song, and his voice was technically disappointing, but i still thought it was beautiful and that he held himself pretty well despite some powerful emotions. again, i say i vote for james to win b/c i think he NEEDS idol more than the rest of them… haley is my second choice. lauren isn’t ready, and neither she nor scotty need idol. they’re both going to have great careers regardless of when they go home.

This show scared me. Lauren has been my favorite from day one. Now who goes? The top four is right but no one deserves to go home. I just hope lauren makes it I loveeee her

it is a great top 4, and lauren is phenomenal, just a little bit immature (but that’s okay/good!). don’t worry about her. i’m sure there are a million record execs chomping at the bit to get their hands on that girl no matter when she goes home. she doesn’t need to “win”.

Scotty has never been in the bottom. Last week was random order, and Ryan said so last week. And, he informed Scotty that although he was last one standing by Casey last week he(Scotty) has never been in the bottom. Get your facts straight.

I just find this season’s group the worst singers IDOL has ever had. No one really is that good. How IDOL ended up with such a bunch is really beyond me, considering the thousands that have auditioned for the show. Anyway, I just hope this season ends really quick so we can start with another one .. and I hope they’d be able to get the real good ones next time.
