Prince William and Prince Charles make toasts while Duchess Kate beams at Queen Elizabeth’s post-wedding canape luncheon
Queen Elizabeth hosted a private luncheon at Buckingham Palace today, inviting 650 guests to the first of two receptions for the Royal Wedding. Both Prince William and Prince Charles gave speeches at the Queen’s luncheon, reports Us Weekly. New bride Kate Middleton couldn’t stop smiling throughout the reception — and who can blame her?!
The magazine reports that guests had to turn in their phones before entering the party. “The reception was lovely,” remarks one guest. “Two speeches were made; one from the Prince of Wales and one from Prince William. Prince Charles’s speech was just fantastic. He thanked the staff and made a toast to the Queen. He also said how proud he was of Kate and welcomed her into the family. Kate was just immaculate! She had a huge smile on her face the whole time and was just beaming.” Sounds adorable!
There was also “plenty” of champagne and caviar, as Royal Chef Mark Flanagan led a 21-chef team to present 10,000 canapes. What kind of food were the royals and honored guests feasting on? Quail eggs with celery salt, pressed duck terrine with fruit chutney, scottish langoustines with lemon mayonnaise, and pressed confit of pork belly with crayfish and crackling were just some of the items on the list.
The eight-tiered wedding cake was the talk of the reception — check it out pics and more details here — but the Prince delighted in the chocolate biscuit groom cake he personally requested from McVities’s Cake Company.
The new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have retreated to St. James’s Palace for now before they join 300 guests for Prince Charles’s dinner reception at Buckingham Palace.
