'Idol' Shocker: Scotty McCreery In The Bottom For The 1st Time & Jacob Lusk Is Safe!

Thu, April 28, 2011 9:15pm EDT by 13 Comments

We were surprised to see Haley Reinhart and Jacob Lusk safe from elimination April 28, but our favorite jazz singer wasn’t as lucky!

And then there were five. Slowly, but surely, American Idol is whittling away its contestants — and it’s anyone’s guess who will take home the prize! Most HollywoodLife.com readers expected Jacob Lusk to get the boot April 28, but that wasn’t the case at all.

Casey Abrams and Scotty McCreery were in the bottom two, and it was Casey who was sent home. The 20-year-old soulful jazz singer was originally voted off March 24, but the judges used their one save of the season to keep him around.

This was Scotty’s first week in the bottom, leaving Lauren Alaina and James Durbin the only two contestants who’ve never been on the chopping block.

With only five contestants remaining, who do YOU think will win season 10 of American Idol? Sound off below!

Kirstin Benson

Scotty, SOS! Raise your head up high and get rid of the flute style of holding the microphone. ASing Elvis Ballad and kill em as Randy says, Scotty’s in it to win it…gotta do something different.

Casey Adams should not have been in the top 24 to begin with, let alone in the top anything. He is one of the most untalented contestants I can remember. The judges had no right to save him and let someone like Karen Rodriguez slip out of sight. She had a fantastic voice. This is a singing competition, not a popularity contest. In the end, it wasn’t that either for Adams. Thank goodness!

Uhm excuse me, not to be rude but your tone deaf if you think he was a bad singer. You do not know what music is, and its Casey Abrams, not Casey Adams. Idiot.

Debbie. First, it has always been a popularity competition. Second, caseyCAN sing and more importantly, perform. My guess is that you’ve never heard jazz. Not liking a genre is different than it being bad.

i loved casey, too, but let’s face it- he was not mainstream enough to win this thing. he got far, and nobody disputed his skills… so hopefully he’ll have a long career with lots of albums in it.

Scotty was NOT in the bottom 2. Seacrest specifically said that the results were in random order, and he never referred anyone as being “in the bottom 2″ or “in the bottom 3″. The match-ups were just for drama.

So glad you pointed that out. How irresponsible it is for entertainment sites to not have the full facts before they post something. Ryan said a couple of times, this was all random order tonight. I had a bad feeling this was gonna happen when they did it that way. I think it was done on purpose! I think Idol has been trying to bring Scotty down a bit because he has such a huge fan base.

I didn’t think Scotty was in the bottom 3 either. They didn’t announce a bottom three. Scotty was up there just for drama.

They said it was the TOP three, so the logic, going backwards as the bottom three are going downwards, is that Lauren came in third, Haley second and Scottie first. That’s why James was crying. He was smart enough to figure that one out.
