Paul was immediately sent packing after the April 14 episode of ‘American Idol’ — but they sent the wrong guy home!
Paul McDonald IS an American Idol. The 26-year-old Alabama native struck a chord with audiences from the moment he stepped on the Idol stage. Paul had girls swooning with his sparkly white smile, which judge Jennifer Lopez said “lit up a room.” But above all, he was talented — beyond gifted. Paul wasn’t a manufactured popstar and that is why he should have won the entire competition!
Why did the other bottom-two contestants, Haley Reinhart and Stefano Langone, deserve to be there more than Paul? Paul has been touring with his band the Grand Magnolia’s (formerly Hightide Blues) since he was in college at Auburn University.
Every night his loyal bandmates put their lives on hold because they believed in Paul. Paul toured the Southeast for years after college devoting his entire life to music. The quirky guy with the Rod Stewart-style vocals is so much more than what Fox showed each week.
Paul wasn’t a chameleon — he didn’t want to change who he was just to win Idol — and that’s probably why he lost. Still, anyone with the least bit of musicality knows Paul defines the word musician. But Paul had the fewest of the 53 million votes — and the facts are the facts.
But America sent the wrong person home! This isn’t the last we’ll see of Paul. Trust me, you’ll be going to one of his sold-out shows one day — and saying “Stefano who?”
