After narrowly escaping elimination, Haley Reinhart and Stefano Langone, were safe — leaving Paul McDonald to sing his swan song. Were YOU disappointed?
He was the leader of the pack and the oldest contestant remaining on Season 10 of American Idol, but Paul McDonald received the lowest number of votes from America and was eliminated from the show April 14 — and it didn’t seem like anyone was too surprised.
The 26-year-old Rod Stewart-esque character didn’t win over the crowd with his rendition of “Old Time Rock and Roll” the night before. Even though the judges failed to point it out, his performance was pitchy and weak compared to the rest, who barely missed a note.
I doubt this is the last we’ll see of Paul. His band back home — The Grand Magnolias — has shot up the iTunes charts since he’s been on Idol. Plus, singing his own songs (versus covers) is his passion, so he’ll be stoked to be on his own for a bit…at least until the tour starts!

I don’t know who this Chloe Melas is, but she knows less than nothing about music. Why would she make statements about Paul’s abilities when she is obviously uneducated and unqualified to make such judgmental statements? It doesn’t matter what has been said about Paul and to whom he’s been compared; the fact is that he is an exceptionally poor singer who cannot even begin to approximate correct pitch. American Idol has become a popularity contest, PERIOD. The transition has been gradual over the past few years. Competing singers used to be exceptional musicians with formidable vocal ability; singers on the current show are rank amateurs who wouldn’t have lasted more than a week if Simon and Paula were still on the show. Elton John refused to work with the contestants this season due to their lack of ability and talent!!! Furthermore, I am AMAZED at the level of musical ignorance demonstrated by the judges this season. It’s positively STAGGERING to realize how little they know. Talk to any educated musician if you doubt the veracity of this fact. Also, the egos of the remaining contestants, with the exception of the struggling Stefano, are absolutely unbelievable. Without all the backup singers, fabulous band and superb stage effects, these kids would be NOTHING — they are not singers!!! And if anyone truly cared about James, they would have STRONGLY advised him against being high-handed with the frustrated musician, Jimmy; James has already proven that, even in his complete lack of experience in the business, he will be impossible to work with — and attitude like his does NOT fly in this business unless you’re an established LEGEND. People believe what they want to believe, but the truth lives. Long story short, Chloe Melas should understand that Paul is loved by many, MANY fans in the Idol audience, but he is NOT a good musician, and he is a MISERABLE vocalist, regardless of how much you may like his performing. Yeeeeesh.
