Catherine Zeta-Jones’s rep confirms with HollywoodLife.com that she sought treatment after dealing with ‘the stress of the past year.’
Her ailing husband Michael Douglas’ health problems proved to be too much for Catherine Zeta-Jones to handle. The 41-year-old actress checked into a mental-health facility this month to treat her bipolar disorder.
“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder. She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films,” Catherine’s rep told HollywoodLife.com.
INFPhoto.com is reporting Catherine checked into Silver Hill Hospital — which specializes in treating mental illness and substance abuse — in New Canaan, Conn., April 6.
She spent about five days in a facility, a friend tells People: “Catherine has had deal with Michael’s illness and that’s been hard. She went in for a few days because she’s about to start working”
Catherine is set to co-star in Playing the Field with Gerard Butler, Dennis Quaid, Jessica Biel and Uma Thurman. Then she is to work on a movie set in Las Vegas, Lay the Favorite with Bruce Willis and Justin Timberlake.
Michael, 66, was dangerously close to losing his battle with throat cancer last year but miraculously recovered after six grueling months of intensive treatment. She and Michael have two children — son Dylan, 10, and daughter Carys, 7.
Our thoughts go out to Catherine and her family as she recovers.
