Father of three Keith Mastronardi plunged to his death from his fifth-floor Manhattan apartment window.
Terrible, terrible news. Wall Street businessman Keith Mastronardi, 31, plunged to his death on Sunday night, April 3, after smoking a cigarette out of his fifth story window in his Manhattan apartment to protect his 11-week-old baby from the fumes. His wife, Debra, 32, was in the room when she turned quickly to check on the baby girl. When she turned back, he had vanished.
“Debra turned to Madison and looked back, and he was gone,” Keith’s mother Charlene tells the New York Post. “She heard a thud, the bang, and went to look out the windows and saw him there.”
The apartment window did not have window guards, which is mandatory in New York when there are young children living in the home.
On the day of the accident, Keith and Debra had spent the afternoon in the park with their two sons Tyler and Luca, and their baby daughter Madison. Police said yesterday the couple had been drinking heavily, but his mother told the Post they had just had a couple of martinis after their day out.
It was about 10:30 pm, when Keith decided to have a cigarette. He opened a waist-high window in his bedroom so the smoke wouldn’t bother Debra or the baby, but he slipped and fell. His body was found in the courtyard of his Upper East Side apartment. So heartbreaking.
Debra became so hysterical that she had to be taken out on a stretcher and was psychologically examined at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
“He was an amazing and loving father and we’ll really miss him,” Keith’s brother Marc told the Post.
Keith’s family released funeral arrangements yesterday — the same day he and Debra were supposed to sign a deal to move out of Manhattan to a new Oyster Bay, LI home. Just devastating. Our prayers are with his family and friends.
