Rob goes up against Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy to play the superhero bad boy
Robert Pattinson fans you might need to start brushing up on your anime! Our sister site Deadline announced that Rob is on the short list for one of the major roles in upcoming movie Akira, a live action version of Katsuhiro Otomo’s graphic novels.
The six volume books are being rewritten into a Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures script by Steve Kloves and is reportedly aiming for an August start on filming. If all goes well it will be a series of three movies, with two books being adapted per film.
Rob is reading for the character Tetsuo, who is the antagonist in the movie. He is up for the part along with Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy.
According to Deadline, the film is set in “rebuilt New Manhattan where a leader of a biker gang saves his friend from a medical experiment.” The character Testuo has psychic powers in the movies, and starts out being best friends with the protagonist Kaneda, but then eventually becomes his enemy when his psychic powers ultimately overwhelm him to the point of insanity. Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix are all reading for the part of Kaneda.
