Simon Cowell Declares Singing Sensation Rebecca Black A 'Genius' — Will She Be On 'The X Factor?'

Sat, March 19, 2011 8:15pm EST by 12 Comments

Simon has no reservations showing love for the YouTube sensation!

Some fans might be surprised to hear Simon Cowell give props to Rebecca Black‘s online hit “Friday,” but his reaction to the song is simply, “Love it!”

Simon, 51, was asked his thoughts on the tune by Entertainment Weekly, and he could barely contain his excitement!

“I’ve never seen anything cause so much controversy,” Simon says. “I think it’s genius. The fact that everyone’s getting upset about it is hysterical. Any song to do with the weekend annoys you. It reminds me of ‘Saturday Night,’ do you remember that [1994] song by Whigfield? It’s what we call a ‘hair-dryer song,’ a song girls sing into their hair dryers as they’re getting ready to go out. But the fact that it’s making people so angry is brilliant.”

Perhaps Rebecca will have her chance at true stardom on The X Factor — pending a invite from Simon!

No. He is setting her up. He just wants her to get on stage so he can hit the BUZZER and tell her to gtfo.

I like the song. Other people like the song too. Weird people if you will, but the number of her fans is bigger than the number of all the friends you will have in your lifetime… hardly a fail… (yeah, I know, you dont care. That’s why you posted, right?)

I agree, but he did say that ‘it’ was genius. Either he is implying that Rebecca is not gender specific, or he is saying the idea of creating a ‘song’ that errbody gone hate for purely publicity generating reasons is genius.

I hate this song, so I’mma say he meant both.

I stopped watching American Idol a long time ago, but I have respect for Simon Cowell… he’s really not a poseur.

His point is that the taste of the average 13-year-old girl is not going to be the same as a Williamsburg hipster or a middle-aged rockist music critic. “Friday” is a disposable song that appeals to a certain demographic, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

It makes as much sense to rant and rave about this song as it would to be angry that movies are made in Hindi or Zulu, languages that you can’t understand as an English speaker.

13-year-old girls have their own language, their own culture, and it’s not yours… they don’t have to like what you like… let them be kids for a spell for God’s sake.

Yes, I’m sure that not all 13 year-old girls like the song; I’m sure that some spend all day listening to Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder, and The Strokes, and we should pat them approvingly on the head for having our tastes rather than those more typical of their demographic… nonetheless, the world isn’t ending just because some other girls their age like Rebecca Black.

Ok its not the fact that she is singing about the weekend but it is because everything about it is terrible..the video, those in the video, the lyrics and the horrible singing voice…. and im not a racist person in the least but seriously what is the deal with the black dude suddenly in the video in the escalade or whatever it was rapping or whatever u want to call that..? kinda creepy…it goes from horrible child song to gangster then back to horrible child song….WTF???!!! however yes it is somewhat genius to make a video so horrible that the world can’t stop looking, it’s a train wreck and people just can’t look away and sadly that is what is going to give her fame..if people would just ignore it, it may go away….i know i personally can’t make it through all of the song before i want to cry in pain…so many hits on you tube because a few people saw how horrible it was and told others and they wanted to see the disaster, bot because it’s good…I understand she is a young girl wanting her moment and she has that right bravo to her for being that brave but why didnt her family step in and tell her no you will be made fun of horribly..??!!

He was rapping about school buses, hardly a gangsta. He probably was going to be the adult chaperone so none of the kids drink at the party, duh!

This (sorry excuse for a) song just goes to show you how ANYBODY can try to be famous. Luckily this girl is famous for having the WORST SONG known to man. I’m pretty sure she gets hated on at school every day so let’s cool it with the negative comments. Her classmates have the done the job for us. Rebecca Black, YOU SUCK! Please don’t ever think about putting out another track. ArkMusic Factory, FREAKIN’ HILARIOUS! You guys just lost any credibility you once (if ever) had. I’ve never even herd of Ark anyway so I highly doubt you have any credibility. Rebecca Black’s 15 minutes of fame will die down in a week and she’ll be remembered for being a laughing stock of the world. MASSIVE FAIL! LMAO!
