A young mom in the UK forgot she had a boyfriend and a baby, after slipping into a coma just days after giving birth. 1 in 15,000 new moms suffer from this terrifying illness!
Stevie Caffrey, 20, refused to believe she had become a mom to newborn Maisie and failed to recognize her boyfriend, Andy after suffering a rare condition that affects one in 15,000 new moms. And to make matters worse, she was unable to speak!
The condition, called Peripartum cardiomyopthy, caused Stevie’s heart and kidneys to shut down just 10 days after she gave birth to little Maisie last November.
Doctors placed her in an induced coma for four weeks to help her recover, but when she came to, to her horror, she couldn’t speak and her memory had been erased.
Stevie says, “I remember Andy sitting there holding my hand and he went out the room and I gestured to the nurse ,’Who’s that?’ and she said, ‘It’s your boyfriend!’ I thought, ‘I haven’t got a boyfriend!’ and she said my dad was coming with the baby. I thought, ‘I haven’t got a baby!'”
Thankfully, after a few days in hospital, Stevie’s voice and her memory began to return – but she was forced to spend a further two months confined to a hospital bed while she recovered from the effects of the rare condition.
She was finally allowed home at the end of February and is thrilled to get the chance to finally bond with the baby she forgot she had!
